Systematic education and training of teachers for use of educational technologies is one of the most important tasks of the e-Schools project: Establishing a System for Developing Digitally Mature Schools (pilot project)” conducted by the Croatian Academic and Research Network – CARNet. As part of these efforts, CARNet organises another of its workshops for teachers in order to present and familiarise them with e-Schools teaching scenarios.
Teaching scenarios will additionally encourage teachers to use technology and digital educational contents (DOS) in classrooms, especially those made within the framework the e-Schools project, as well as encourage them to try to design their own teaching scenarios and to publish and share them with their colleagues. Every teaching scenario presumes innovative teaching and learning methods for mathematics, chemistry, physics and biology, with the aid of technology. So far, a hundred out of 240 teachings scenarios have been created for the mentioned subject in 7th and 8th grades of primary schools, as well as 1st and 2nd grades of secondary schools, and each of them proposes a number of innovative ideas for implementation of specific curricular subjects through course activities in a way to present teachers with a modern pedagogic method (e.g. reversed classroom, research learning, teamwork, gamification etc.) and an appropriate technology, digital course materials or digital tools for implementation of a course activity.
Special value of these documents is that in designing all activities and tasks they provide recommendations for adjustments of course activities for students with special educational needs, i.e. students with disabilities, as well as talented students.
CARNet developed the teaching scenarios in cooperation with the project partners: the Faculty of Organization and Informatics of University of Zagreb and the Education and Teacher Training Agency, as well as a consortium made of the Profil Klett company, the British Council and the Center for inclusive support IDEM. All documents have been reviewed by independent methodologists, subject-matter experts and experts for inclusion, and in order to ensure the highest quality and applicability in classes, the teaching scenarios have been evaluated and are revised in accordance with the feedback from teachers who will be applying them.
All teaching scenarios include three levels (beginner’s, medium and advanced) in order to be as convenient as possible for teachers, i.e. at the levels of their digital competences. The remaining 140 scenarios within the e-Schools pilot project will be finished by the end of this school year. The for the purpose easier access, all documents have been published on a recently launched and unique web site https://scenariji-poucavanja.e-skole.hr. The scenarios will also be published in a digital guide for teachers, which will be created and published in October this year, and will provide teachers with methodical instructions as to how to best apply the teaching scenarios in the classroom. Since autumn 2017 all scenarios will be accessible through the repository of digital educational contents which is also being developed within the e-Schools pilot project.
