CRISS
In January 2017, the CRISS (Demonstration of a scalable and cost-effective cloud-based digital learning infrastructure through the certification of digital competences in primary and secondary schools) project from the European Union programme Horizon 2020 was launched.
The purpose of the CRISS project is the development and pilot implementation of a digital platform for the acquisition, valuation and certification of the digital competences of primary and secondary school students.
The CRISS platform will be tested via a mass pilot which will include more than 490 schools, that is, 25 400 students and 2290 teachers in several European countries.
Croatian students and teachers will have the opportunity of participating in the project through CARNET, which is the CRISS project partner in charge of the pilot implementation of CRISS digital competence and platform models in Croatia. As much as 1000 Croatian students and 60 teachers from a total of 20 schools will participate in the pilot project which will be implemented during the school year 2018/2019. Croatian students and their teachers will use the CRISS platform in activities related to various school subjects, and thereby develop and evaluate their digital competences.
The first year of the CRISS project was dedicated to developing a theoretical model for acquiring student digital competences and to developing the CRISS platform. CARNET also participated in the development of the CRISS theoretical model headed by Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC, Open University of Catalonia), established in 1994 as one of the first higher-education institutions in the world to offer fully online education programmes. Today, the UOC has more than 50 000 students from around the world and retains the status of a technologically advanced institution with an innovative teaching style.
The CRISS project began on 01 January 2017 and will continue until 31 December 2019. The total project value is approximately 6 million euro, of which a maximum of 4.87 million euro will be provided by the European Commission. The coordinator of the CRISS project is the British company EXUS Software LTD, and a total of fourteen partners, among which are public institutions, non-profit institutions, small and medium-sized universities and large companies, also participate in the project as partners.
Project activities can currently be followed on Twitter and the official webpage of the CRISS project, which contains all relevant information. CARNET will timely notify all users and other interested parties on the project.
