October is not just the month when we welcome autumn in all its colours, but also the time to mark Cybersecurity Month.
The European Cybersecurity Month (ECSM) is an initiative aimed at raising awareness about the importance of data protection and online security. This year, the main theme of the month-long campaign will be social engineering, a form of cyber fraud that uses manipulation to trick users into unknowingly revealing sensitive information such as passwords, financial data, and other personal details.
Through various activities, educational sessions, and workshops, the campaign will strive to educate the public on how to recognize signs of social engineering and protect themselves from potential threats. The focus will be on common scam techniques, such as phishing emails and phone calls, and how to safeguard personal information online.

National CERT activities during ECSM:
- October 1–31 | GÉANT CyberSecMonth 2024 – GÉANT’s campaign for academic and research networks, with this year’s motto: “Your brain is the first line of defense.”
- October 7–11 | European Cybersecurity Challenge – ECSC – Turin – European competition for young cybersecurity talents, featuring our Team Croatia (CrOwOatia).
- October 18–20 | Hacknite 5. CTF competition for high school students.
- October 31 | Final conference of the ZoomIn4PinkHats project, promoting cybersecurity among female students and teachers in Croatian schools.
