CARNET develops and maintains CARNET Debian, a distribution of Debian GNU/Linux operating system tailored to the needs of CARNET members. A series of custom program packages is made for CARNET Debian to support system engineers, who are trying to abstract high-profile issues with simple software download procedures, install, and maintenance of software packages. The second feature of the software package is to provide a unified set of network services at the level of the entire CARNET network, which is the basis for providing high quality services.

Apart from preparing of software packages, the group for coding of program packages also acts as the helpdesk for all issues arising from the use of software packages through the helpdesk for system engineers.
